I can't stop laughing. We've hit an all-new low with COVID protection, but it's at least entertaining! Nathan has to wear a mask with a hole in it for band. Yes, a hole. Yep, where his mouth goes. I'm not sure why, but this has seriously brought me so much laughter!

Buddies....
Now that Madison has her license, these two have gotten closer! They love to go run errands together. Today they went to Walmart and Target, and stopped by Starbucks for a cake pop (Nathan has been dying to try one for a while)! It still freaks me out, but I love seeing them have fun together.

ANOTHER birthday sleepover!
Another one of Madison's best friends, Riley, had her 16th birthday party last night! Madison is a busy girl with birthday parties these days. They went swimming and had a great time!

LTC
Well, with COVID this year, the LTC Bible Bowl convention was canceled. It was pretty much on hold for several months while they figured out what to do. We ended up finishing the service challenge, but Bible Bowl was done a bit differently this year! Individual tests at home, and no groups. This year it covered 2nd Samuel, and the theme was Rescued.

Contacts!
I've been trying to talk Nathan into getting contacts for a long time now, and he's never been the least bit interested. All of a sudden, he wanted to look into getting them, and was counting down the days until his eye appointment! He got contacts on Friday and was so very excited!
It took him almost an hour to get them in on Saturday, with a ton of frustration. Sunday, it took him about 15 minutes. Today, before school, it took him FIVE minutes! My boy has got it down now. So proud of him! He LOVES not messing with his glasses and the fact that he can see so much better (peripheral vision). He's a happy boy.

Birthday sleepover...
One of Madison's best friends, Ruthie, had her 16th birthday party last night. Madison had so much fun! This was also the first party she's driven herself to - it seems a little crazy! I just love that she has such a great group of friends though.

1st day of school!
The dreaded/anticipated day is here! Both kids got up and out the door on time! SUCCESS!
First day of 6th grade and the first day of 7th grade!
Praying for an awesome year! I'm really hoping they can still manage to have good days with all this social distancing, mask-wearing, and half of their friends doing remote learning. We'll see. I'm sure going to miss these two!

Goodbye summer....
Well, it wasn't a normal summer by ANY means, but we had some good times! We started off the summer by moving (AGAIN) to our new house! While it was super stressful and draining, it was exciting because we love this house. Then two weeks later, we did something crazy and decided to take our Pensacola trip regardless of the crazy that was happening (riots, COVID) and had a great time. We are so thankful to have had that time together! We had perfect weather, great food, relaxation, and lots of laughing! In July, we traded in two cars for one because we just don't need three cars right now. Love saving money, especially right now! The kids both had church work camp, and while it was nothing like normal, they still enjoyed it and did some good for others. And the last day they went to the lake for the first time in their lives, and got to experience tubing on a boat! Nathan turned 13, and couldn't have a big party, but he did have a great day and had Chance spend the night! Madison started band camp, and she also took her driving test and got her license this month. Big stuff for her! In August, the kids started driving themselves to church. It's a little scary, but I love that they can do this now! They have a lot of fun together and have spent a lot more time this month running errands and going for Kung Fu Tea together! We also had our hotel getaway and stayed at the Gaylord Texan.
We had a lot of family tv/movie nights, Jackbox tv time, sleepovers, swimming, and Kung Fu Tea! The kids stayed up super late and slept in every day, which is their favorite part of summer and the part they'll miss the most. Madison's word for this summer was "different" and Nathan's word was "interesting". They did say it was more boring than most summers, but I think it did them good to be bored. Life is rarely boring, and I'm still thinking we should take advantage of this time!
They are on the fence with how to feel about the summer ending. They are both excited to get back to school but they are sad that summer is over as well. Madison is way more excited than Nathan though...she's ready to be with friends every day and not be at home!

Hotel stay!
Madison didn't have any band-related activities this week, so we decided to close out summer with our traditional hotel stay before school starts! We thought we'd change it up and stay at the Gaylord Texan, which made me a little sad because that is where I always take their yearly pictures (that I didn't get to do this year because of dumb COVID)! The kids liked being there overnight, and I think secretly wished we were taking pictures!
We had a super expensive and gross dinner in the room, but it was all about the experience!
We had a good time. It was a quick getaway, but we had fun together! I can't believe school is starting this week though. It's going to be hard adjusting back to reality after five months off! Praying for a semi-normal and great school year for both kids!
