Butterflies and all things B!

This week we studied the letter "B". I've decided not to post pictures from every week....one, because I don't like having to take pictures while I'm working with him, two, the pictures all start to look alike anyway, and three, I'd have a million pictures added to my other million pictures each month! You can only see so many. So, if you'd like the website I'm using, it's HERE.

The first day he traced a Big "B" and a little "b".

He matched big "B's" to the little "b's" with butterflies (and was excited that he did it!).

And he did a counting exercise with little butterflies!

He wasn't in the mood for much more (even these activities were quite a struggle!). So I decided we would wait for another day. Today he finally seemed like he was in a "school" mood. So, we started off by reading My "b" Sound Box. This child LOVES books and would spend all day reading if he could. He had so much fun pointing out all the things that started with a "b".

He sorted the butterflies by size.

He colored a "Do-a-dot" picture of "B's" without the do-a-dot markers! I SO need to buy him some.

He sorted big "B's" and little "b's".

We read Caterpillar to Butterfly, which is one of his FAVORITE books!

And for our last book, we read Who Do You Love? - a book about bears!

Onto craft time....tearing up tissue paper and crinkling it up!

We decorated a butterfly using tissue paper! And yes, I said WE. He wanted me to help a little. I think he was getting close to being done for the day!

Very proud of his artwork!

And then we talked about the word BIBLE beginning with a "b", and he kept singing Jesus Loves Me. I tried to get it on video, but something happened and I only caught the last bit. He says, "...bible tells me so" and then "I did it!". My sweet boy. I asked him yesterday who loved him, and he answered with, "Jesus!" In my eyes, there's nothing better....nothing at all.

My sweet babies...

Preschool at home!

A friend of mine forwarded a homeschool blog to me with TONS of preschool activities that you can download. I've been wanting to work with Nathan, but I don't have that teacher instinct in me, so I need something to print and follow! This is PERFECT, and she updates all the time. Love love love it. Thanks Holly for introducing me to this website!

I decided that we'd do something two days a week (like a preschool). He'll start real preschool in the fall, but I wanted to work with him so he'll be more ready. I feel like I've failed in that area, but mostly because I'm always so focused on working with him on his speech! I wasn't sure how he'd respond to "school", but this boy had a blast. He kept saying, "nother one" after every activity! And it turns out he's smarter than I realized!

This week was all about the letter "A". We started on Tuesday...here he is matching shapes and colors with the ants!

Coloring the "A's"...

Matching the big "A" to the little "a"...he was very proud of himself!

This was his favorite one...taking a toothpick and punching holes on the letters. Sort of like tracing.

I helped him with three holes - that's it. Look how neat he was!

Then we got the shaving cream out and practiced writing our "A's". Well, not really....he mainly just played in it. :)

He enjoyed this, but when he was done, he was DONE!

Today, we finished off our "A" week with some books and a gluing project (his favorite). We read Ten Apples Up On Top and My "a" Book. He loved pointing out all the things that started with an "a".

Then he made a big "A" and a little "a" out of noodles and beans!

Seeing how excited and happy he was about "school" made me realize that he is more ready than I thought for preschool. I think he's going to do amazing! But until then....we'll have some preschool fun at home!

Bluebonnets x 2...

Well, I got my new lens, and it's not what I had in mind at all. Apparently, my camera doesn't allow for auto focusing unless the LENS does....and this one doesn't. So, as I found out, manual focus isn't my thing....my eyesight isn't good enough! So, we went one afternoon with the new lens, and then the next afternoon with my old lens! My poor kids with their picture obsessed mother!

He was really into his jelly beans. Yes, I bribe my kids for good pictures! :)

These kind of moments don't happen often...I'm so happy I caught them!

Playdate with Andrew...

We went over to Andrew's house today and it was so cute watching these boys play!

They were so interested in what the other had...

Simple pleasures....a rocking chair!

Andrew and Nathan are only 6 months apart, and I love how they're to the age of playing with each other! They really do have fun together. Such sweet boys! Thanks Jana for having us over. :)
